How do you juggle a career in digital marketing, ICT, and climate action while pursuing an MBA? Mohildin Bushra, who started the MSM Global Online MBA in January 2024, has found a way to do just that. Now halfway through the programme, he reflects on his diverse career and how the MBA is shaping his future.

From electronics engineering to climate action

With a background in electronics engineering, Mohildin currently works as a Digital Marketing Manager in the UAE while also serving as an ICT, Media, and Communications Officer at SUDTT (Sudan Urban Development Think-Tank). On top of that, he is launching his own digital agency. However, his career path has been far from linear. “My career path has been quite diverse and unconventional,” he explains. “Starting in IT and maintenance engineering, then shifting to graphic and web design, followed by administration and project coordination in the governmental sector. Eventually, I transitioned into civil society work with SUDTT.”

His engagement in climate-related projects led him to COP28 in 2023, where he was selected as one of only 100 youth delegates from the Global South. “This role allowed me to represent youth at major events while also exploring new opportunities for my organisation.”

Why an Online MBA?

Despite his dynamic career, Mohildin made a deliberate decision to pursue an MBA in 2024. “I believe that at some point in their careers, many professionals reach a stage where they aspire to build something of their own—whether it’s a business, a consultancy, or an initiative. This was my motivation.”

His choice for the MSM Global Online MBA was no coincidence. “I had previous experience with MSM through a seven-month project management training programme, which was a turning point in my career. The online format of the MBA was also perfect for me because, after the war broke out in Sudan, I had to relocate to the UAE. The flexibility of the MSM Global Online MBA allowed me to continue my education despite the challenges of relocation.”

Applying knowledge in real time

For Mohildin, the MBA has been an enriching experience. “I have enjoyed every single course so far because each one has introduced me to new perspectives and concepts that I hadn’t explored before. Many of the methods, frameworks, and strategies I have learned so far are directly applicable to my current roles.”

Two courses stood out in particular: ‘Leadership and Organisational Behaviour’ and ‘Marketing in the Global Context’. “The leadership course helped me better understand team dynamics, leadership styles, and motivation, which are crucial for managing teams and projects. The marketing course was especially relevant given my work in digital marketing and communications, helping me refine strategies and approaches for an international audience.”

One of the most valuable aspects of the programme, he says, is engaging with fellow students from diverse backgrounds. “Learning from professionals from diverse backgrounds has been incredibly enriching.”

Future ambitions and advice

Even though he is only halfway through the MBA, Mohildin already sees its immense value. “I always say that even if I stopped my MBA now, the knowledge I’ve already gained is invaluable. However, I see this as just the beginning.”

His advice to future students? “Be prepared to gain deep insights—not just about business, administration, and leadership but also about yourself. Most importantly, you will learn not just from your professors but also from your fellow students, each of whom brings a unique and valuable perspective to the table.”
