The fully revised Certificate Courses in Health Professions Education by School of Health Professions Education offer healthcare educators and academic professionals the opportunity to deepen their expertise in key areas of health professions education. Fully online and designed for working professionals, the courses combine evidence-based learning with personalised guidance and practical application in participants’ own educational contexts.

Course overview

The Certificate Courses provide flexible online learning tracks focused on key themes in health professions education. Each track is worth 4 ECTS (112 study hours) and can be followed individually or combined with other tracks.

In the first run, mid August to the early December, these tracks are available:

• From task to training: Mastering instructional design for complex skills
• From Theory to Practice: Applying Educational Theory for Transformative Learning
• Designing Change: Innovating Curricula for Modern Health Education
• Beyond the Score: Analyzing Assessment to Enhance Learning Outcomes
• From Questions to Evidence: Research in Health Professions Education

In the second run, mid October to the late February, these tracks are available:

• Designing Change: Innovating Curricula for Modern Health Education
• Assessing Impact: Critically Evaluating Assessment in Health Education
• Educational Leadership: Shaping the Future of Health Professions Through Innovation
• From Questions to Evidence: Research in Health Professions Education

It is possible to do multiple tracks at the same time, and deviations from the tracks are possible in consultation with the coordinator.

Participants receive personal guidance from a Course Coordinator and benefit from a largely asynchronous learning format with limited live sessions. The courses also offer an excellent introduction to the Maastricht University Master of Health Professions Education (MHPE), as completed tracks may qualify for exemptions within the master’s programme.

The course fee is €2,050 for participants following one track and €2,550 for participants following two tracks concurrently.

The Certificate Courses are also available on demand for groups and institutions. Indicative pricing for customised group delivery is approximately €21,000 for a group of 10 participants following one track, and €28,000 for two tracks. Limited adaptations to the standard course format are possible in consultation with the programme team and may affect the final course fee.
